collage Collage Piece

I have always collected the different things that I have been to or done. (Movie/gamne tickets, flyers, plane tickets, photos, etc.) and would end up just taping them to my wall. Eventually I had a large collage and every time I moved to a new place I would have to roll it up and shove it in my car which I hated to do. I have always wanted to put it on something so it could be easily moved and permanent attached to something. I used the Studio Sessions show as an excuse to do it because I knew it would look great in the show.

I took apart the collage and put it all back together using gel medium to attach all the pieces to a large (48″x96″ cut in half so 2 – 48″x48″) piece of panel board.

Covered it with Mod-Podge to seal it and after all that was dry, covered it with a wax medium to give it a matte finish.

Darkened the edges to contain everything a bit more.

Used oil paint to paint a design on the bottom. I liked it without the design but it still didn’t look finished to me still so I went in with the paint. I would like to go in and add some more details with a paint pen.

I had a lot of fun with this and it has been a project i have wanted to do for a while now. Pretty happy with the turnout.
It came out almost exactly like I had invisioned. Just a few touch ups…

fishtable post Fish Table Design
A table top I painted that is soon to be featured at Apres Diem, Atlanta.

This was an experiment in something I don’t usually do and it gave me so many ideas.
I haven’t really messed much with painting in the past. Doing this was alot of fun and a good change.
I’d say it helps to do something out of pace from what are used to every now and then.
It keeps things fresh and also keeps yours mind open to a fresh line of thinking.

The table was covered in text cut from various magazines and I gave it a thick black border around the edge.

The outlines were filled in and I had some paper with shiny gold streaks.
I cut a few out to add into the fish for some variety.

Some of the areas were painted with red and yellow glaze.
The idea was to still be able to see the text through the color.

This is the finished before the wash.

We washed it in a brown wash to make it look a little more vintage.
It came out dark but some of the wrinkles of the paper show through the brown which looks interesting. I think it will look good once the polyurethane is on it. It will bring out some of the colors.

I will take some photos once it is all completed and add it here.
